2022 GPF: Pandemic Preparedness and Health Resilience
The COVID-19 pandemic has deeply changed the way societies live across every region of the world. With profound social and financial impact, as well as human suffering and loss of lives. While much of our focus remains on responding to the current global health crisis through the equitable distribution of vaccines and therapeutics, we must put our collective efforts into preventing a future pandemic.
Members of Parliament are at the center of this process, as they can advocate for more efforts and investment in pandemic preparedness, while holding governments accountable. Simultaneously, they are key players in the much needed multilateral response, as no one is safe until everyone is safe.
This roundtable discussion brought together members of the Panel for a Global Public Health Convention, the International Forum on Global Health, the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, UNITE Global Parliamentarians Network, and the Global Fund, to discuss the way forward to prevent pandemics, and parliamentarians’ role in this process.
